Becoming a Driving Instructor
To qualify for registration as a DSA Approved Driving Instructor you must first satisfy
the following conditions.
You Must hold a full British or Northern Ireland unrestricted car driving licence, and
have held it for a total of 4 out of the last 6 years prior to entering the register after
qualifying.
You Must be a fit and proper person to have your name entered in the register.
All
convictions, including motoring offences still in force (i.e Not spent under the
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 will be taken into account when assessing your
suitability to entered in the register.)
As from Spring 2007, all applicants will need to have an enhanced criminal record check. This check will need to be carried out before the candidate applies for registration. A disclosure pack can be obtained by calling 0870 850 2455

You must pass all 3 parts of the register qualifying examinations
In addition you should be aware that you cannot supervise a learner driver unless you have
held a full driving licence for at least 3 years and you are over 21 years of age.
